Mark MyGrant, having been Principal of North Atlanta High School for five years and Sutton Middle School for ten, is retiring from Atlanta Public Schools.
MyGrant’s thirty-three years in education have left a noticable impact, with students and teachers alike talking about his contributions to Atlanta Public Schools. Melissa Gautreaux, Assistant Principal, reflected on her fourteen years with Mr. MyGrant, commenting that he “was a wonderful influence on the community, and it is truly sad to see him leave.”
MyGrant plans to move on into residential real estate.”My plans are to join Beacham Realty in late summer, early fall. I will be teaming with Nancy Meister, who is our school board member here in Buckhead. She also was a former PTA President of mine at Sutton Middle School.”
MyGrant comments on his future, “I’m excited. I am a little nervous because I have been in the education business for 33 years, but I am excited to be learning something different. And I am also really thrilled I will be able to stay in the Buckhead community that I have grown to love. In fact, Beacham does most of its business in the greater Buckhead community. So it is going to be different, but exciting as well.”
It is quite a career change for MyGrant, but he seems confident and willing. “I have rental property. And I have always loved watching the television shows about real estate, the international ones, you know the my first starter home ones. I love my house and my home that I live in now. And I have gotten to know Nancy so well, and we started discussing it and I thought it was a great opportunity.”
Laura Brazil, Academy Leader of the Global Broadcast & Journalism SLC, says MyGrant will “definitely be missed” and was a “pleasure to work with”.
North Atlanta students Maggie Neel, Jianna Justice, and Kwame Fontaine, starred in the video shown above, along with Melissa Gautreaux and Kelley Day, expressing the sentiments of the North Atlanta community at a PTA meeting.
MyGrant will be leaving with the Class of 2012, whom he has been Principal of since sixth grade at Sutton. Below are photos from MyGrant’s tenure at Sutton and North Atlanta. His influence will be remembered, and he will be missed.
